The Role of the Final Reviewer
The responsibilities of the person making the final call to close a comment.
Final Reviewer Mandate & Governance
The final reviewer occupies the most critical checkpoint in the design quality cycle. This role does not simply confirm whether an engineer typed a response note or attached an updated detail. Instead, the final reviewer acts as the independent authority ensuring the proposed resolution aligns with design criteria, resolves secondary cross-discipline impacts, and provides verifiable drawing evidence before any item is locked as closed.
When final reviewers act merely as administrative rubber stamps, unresolved geometric clashes and specification oversights slip into construction sets. Establishing explicit responsibilities prevents premature closures, aligns coordination handoffs, and ensures technical defensibility throughout the project lifecycle.
Key Reviewer Responsibilities:
- Verify visual revision clouds on every referenced sheet and companion drawing.
- Confirm that the respondent solved the root design issue rather than masking symptom details.
- Check cross-discipline approval whenever changes impact structural, mechanical, or architectural elements.
- Ensure resolution notes contain concrete revision numbers, dates, and explicit rationale.
